CDBG-DR Gymnasium Resiliency Project
Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» has been awarded $5 million in Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funding through the Rebuild Florida Infrastructure Repair Program, administered by FloridaCommerce. Funding is provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to support long-term recovery and resilience following presidentially declared disasters.
Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»â€™s project is funded through the 2023 and 2024 Storms Rebuild Florida Infrastructure Repair Program.
The funding will support improvements to the College’s gymnasium on the Northwest Campus to strengthen the facility’s resilience and enhance its ability to support the College and surrounding community before, during, and after major emergencies and disasters.
Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» has a history of supporting state and local emergency response operations, including providing facilities for emergency personnel and staging areas for equipment during major storms and other emergency events. The gymnasium is an important component of the College’s ability to support these efforts.
Project Improvements
The Gymnasium Resiliency Project is expected to include improvements such as:
- Replacement and strengthening of the gymnasium roof;
- Upgrades to the facility’s heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems; and
- Installation of an emergency backup generator.
Building a More Resilient Community
These investments will improve the long-term resilience of an important public facility while supporting Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»â€™s continued role as a community partner during emergencies.
The project complements ongoing efforts by the College to coordinate with state and local emergency management partners regarding the use of Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» facilities and property to support disaster response and recovery operations.
