Saints Fall to Daytona, 6-4

March 16, 2014

The Santa Fe Saints entered Saturday's matinee against Daytona State riding a three game win streak but saw it come to an end at the hands of Daytona State College, 6-4.  Defense was again the Achilles heel for Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» (14-10, 4-3 MFC) as they committed three errors leading to a Falcons run.

The Saints fell behind 2-0 after four and a half innings but tied the score in the bottom of the fifth on a Casey Scoggins RBI single and a wild throw by the Falcons pitcher.

Daytona answered with two in the sixth to make it 4-2 and the Saints trimmed it to 4-3 in the bottom of the sixth on a Payson Smith RBI double.

DSC put two insurance runs on the boar in the ninth and Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» managed just one run in the bottom of the inning to end the game.

Jonathan Camp finished 3-for-5 with a RBI, Scoggins was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a RBI, and Roger Gonzalez was 2-for-3.

The Saints will head to Daytona on Monday, Mar. 17 looking for revenge against the Falcons.  First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
