Rooney and the Saints Slide Past FSC-J, 5-3
March 30, 2014
Santa Fe starting pitcher Connor Rooney struck out nine Florida State College-Jacksonville batters over six innings in route to his fifth victory of the season against just one loss. The Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» offense gave him five runs of support and Derek Vail earned a save with three shutout innings. Santa Fe is now tied for first the Mid-Florida Conference with College of Central Florida and St. John's River State College.
FSC-J took a 2-1 lead after the second inning but the Saints (19-11, 6-4 MFC) answered with two in the third on a RBI double by Jonathan Camp and a RBI single by Roger Gonzalez for a 3-2 Santa Fe advantage.
The Blue Wave tied the score in the top of the sixth and the Saints bounced back once again for two more runs on three hits, including a two out single by George Ragsdale to go ahead 5-3. That was all the runs Vail would need as he shut down FSC-J over the final three innings to secure the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» victory.
Ragsdale led the offense, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a RBI. Casey Scoggins finished 2-for-4 and Camp was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI.
The Saints and Blue Wave will finish up their three game series with the rubber match on Monday, Mar. 31 at 3 p.m. in Jacksonville. The game will be broadcast on www.theprepzone.com and www.floridacast.com.
