Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» won a roller coaster of a game on Saturday in Ocala over the College of Central Florida, overcoming a late rally from the Patriots to win on a 24 foot three pointer by sophomore LaBrian Shiflet to give the Saints the heart-stopping victory after a defensive stop by Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» in the closing seconds.
The Saints (9-11, 2-1 MFC) trailed in the early going but mounted a rally in the final minutes of the first half to take a 42-37 lead into the locker room.
The second half was back and forth until Santa Fe started to pull away in the closing minutes and maintained a six-point lead until a minute to go. With 1:06 to play, Central Florida (17-6, 1-2 MFC) ripped off seven points in a little over 30 seconds to take a one-point lead with 18 seconds remaining. On the ensuing Saints possession, Shiflet saw an open look from about 24 feet and knocked it down to give Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» the lead with seven seconds left. The Saints stopped two CF attempts in the final seconds to pick up the victory.
Shiflet finished with a game high 24 points, and Leo Edwards was a force in the paint, recording a 14 point, 10 rebound double-double. Alex Brown (11) and Benjy Dumornay (10) also finished in double figures.
The Saints will play back to back non-conference games next week when they host Impact
Academy on Tuesday at 7 p.m., and Victory Rock Academy on Thursday at 7 p.m.
