April 24, 2017

April 21, 2017 - Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» hosted the Florida Design Out Crime Association (fldoca.com) April 21 and presented a nationwide webinar on CPTED.

FLDOCA is a group of crime prevention experts in Florida that are trained in crime prevention through environmental design (aka CPTED). CPTED is a way to make the built environment safer with strategies such as good lighting, well maintained landscaping, signage, natural surveillance via good windows and sightlines, and well-marked roadways, sidewalks, crosswalks, and boundaries.

While hosting, Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» also broadcast a webinar on CPTED concepts to approximately 200 higher education professionals nationwide. The presentation featured many pictures of Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» and highlighted the work of Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» facilities, and in particular, grounds crews.

City of Aventura Crime Prevention Coordinator Ernie Long and Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» PD Chief Ed Book were the primary presenters. The Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» Police Department has 3 practitioners in this field including Officers Tony Manibusan and Mike Fannin, and Chief Book. They have each provided training to facilities staff in the past.
