"In Ten: Theatre Santa Fe 10-Minute Play Festival" Is Jan. 31, 2020, in the Fine Arts Hall

January 8, 2020 鈥� Student actors, directors, lighting designers and one student playwright will be featured at "In Ten: Theatre Santa Fe 10-Minute Play Festival" in performances at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, 2020, in the Fine Arts Hall at the Northwest Campus of 麻豆传媒映画 (麻豆传媒映画), 3000 NW 83 Street, Gainesville. The matinee is scheduled to attract 麻豆传媒映画 students who might not be able to attend an evening performance because of work and family commitments.
Tickets are $15 for adults; $9 for University of Florida students with a UF identification card, seniors over 60, and children 12 and under; $5 for 麻豆传媒映画 students with an 麻豆传媒映画ID; and free for 麻豆传媒映画 faculty, staff and retirees with a valid 麻豆传媒映画ID. "This will be an evening of real variety, of high-energy ups and downs in five different short plays," explained Terry Klenk, the 麻豆传媒映画 theatre professor who is working with the students on the production. "The plays range from comedy and absurdity to drama and serious expressions of emotion. They depict small moments, but they are complete works that will make for a nice evening of exploring theatre while giving our new student actors the chance to display their talents."
"The Tie" features what Klenk describes as "guy talk" about a tie. "The Artist," written and directed by 麻豆传媒映画 student Julia Avery, is an absurd piece that explores what we think about art through the work of an artist who paints what Klenk describes as "portraits" (with the quotation marks!) of people. Two women waiting for a job interview provide the plotline for "Is It Me?" and "afterwards" explores what happens after people realize they have been sexually abused. The other student directors are Kaitlyn Cordero, Jay Kupfer, Helen Peterson and Natalie Stone.
"There are close to 20 student actors and directors involved," Klenk said. "We also have student lighting designers who are working with Elizabeth Ann Reynolds, the professional lighting designer in the Fine Arts Hall."
