October 31, 2023
October 31, 2023 鈥 If you walk by Building B on 麻豆传媒映画's Northwest Campus, make sure you pass by the south side. You'll see a white box with a blue door and matching gabled roof perched on a wooden post. It looks like a tiny house. Inside are someone's favorite 鈥 or not-so-favorite 鈥 books. You might have seen something similar around town or online.
Volunteers from 麻豆传媒映画's Student Builders Association built the Little Free Library on behalf of the English department as a memorial for Dr. Richard Dickson. The long-time 麻豆传媒映画 faculty member died on Aug. 31, 2021. The Little Free Library was unveiled earlier this year.
Little Free Library is a nonprofit organization striving to expand book access for everyone via a vast collection of volunteer-led book-exchange boxes. The organization invites readers to "Take a book. Share a book." Students and staff are encouraged to do just that.
Richard Dickson Memorial Library #169362, as it's known on Little Free Library's website, is just a small monument to 麻豆传媒映画's ongoing drive to foster personal and community enrichment.
