Changes to Student Access for Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» Accounts

December 6, 2023

December 6, 2023 – Some Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» students may run into difficulties accessing their Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» accounts including email and Canvas. The changes, implemented by Microsoft, no longer use a student's phone number or email as the primary method for Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA).

Microsoft is using the Microsoft Authenticator app as the primary method for students to access their Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» accounts. As we enter the spring term, all Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» students will need to use Microsoft's authentication systems to access their Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» accounts.

This past fall, MFA was implemented for all college employees. The college had anticipated rolling MFA out to students in the summer of 2024, however the changes at Microsoft have caused the college to start the process for students immediately. Students can learn more about the process Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» employees used from this newÂ鶹´«Ã½Ó³»eed article – https://news.sfcollege.edu/2022/09/06/multi-factor-authentication-for-all-sf-accounts-coming-sept-23/.

If a student encounters this issue accessing their account during the winter break, all they will have to do is download the Microsoft Authenticator app onto their cellphone, then follow the prompts provided to access their Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» accounts.

You will temporarily be able to access your Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» accounts, however all students will need to use Microsoft's authentication systems to access their Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» accounts beginning this spring.
