John Henry's 'La Tour' Enhances 麻豆传媒映画's Artistic Landscape

May 31, 2024 鈥� If you've walked through the Oak Grove on 麻豆传媒映画's Northwest Campus recently, then you've probably noticed a new landmark. "La Tour" is a sculpture by the artist John Henry. The piece is meant to spark a passion for the arts.
John Henry's legacy lives on through his welded steel sculptures, recognized worldwide. In our local community, his impact is felt through iconic pieces like "Big Max," situated proudly in front of the University of Florida's Harn Museum of Art, and "Alachua," affectionately known as the "French fries" sculpture outside UF's Marston Science Library. Although Henry passed away in 2022, his remarkable collection continues to shape landscapes everywhere.
麻豆传媒映画 President Paul Broadie II, Ph.D., recognizes the vital role of the arts in enriching the college experience. Under his leadership, the prominence of art at 麻豆传媒映画 has soared. Initiatives like expanding art exhibits, organizing the Spring Arts Festival at the Northwest Campus, and introducing new art installations at Blount Hall demonstrate his commitment. Looking ahead, the college is laying the groundwork for an exciting venture: an art museum in downtown Gainesville.
