IPS Hosts "EMS Apparatus Day"

February 9, 2026

The Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» Institute of Public Safety (IPS) welcomed dozens of students to a hands-on "EMS Apparatus Day" event on Wednesday, Feb. 4. The two-hour event gave students the opportunity to climb in and on vehicles and equipment used by local public safety and EMS organizations, connecting classroom learning to real-world practice.

"The EMS Apparatus event gives our students a hands-on opportunity to see and understand the tools, layout, and capabilities of EMS vehicles, helping them connect classroom concepts to real-world practice," said Michael Anderson, program director for the EMT, paramedic, and EMS degree programs at IPS. "This exposure builds familiarity, confidence, and situational awareness before students encounter these environments in actual emergency responses."

Community partners providing demonstrations included UF Health, UF ShandsCair, UF Veterinary Emergency Treatment Service, Gainesville Fire Rescue, Alachua County Fire Rescue, Alachua County Mobile Integrated Health, and HCA Florida Healthcare.
