Ombudsperson
Overview
Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» is committed to ensuring that students have access to a fair, respectful, and supportive learning environment. Students have the right to meet with the College Ombudsperson to discuss concerns, challenges, questions, or complaints related to their experience at the College.
The Ombudsperson provides a safe, confidential, impartial, and informal space where students can explore options for resolving concerns and gaining a better understanding of College processes. The Ombudsperson serves as a neutral resource and advocates for fairness, helping students navigate challenges while promoting equitable treatment and access to appropriate resources.
How the Ombudsperson Can Help
Student Advocacy, Guidance, and Support
The Ombudsperson can assist students by:
- Listening to concerns and helping students identify possible next steps.
- Explaining College policies, procedures, and processes.
- Assisting students in navigating academic and non-academic challenges.
- Providing referrals to campus and community resources.
- Supporting students as they work through complaint and appeal processes.
- Serving as a resource for students experiencing barriers related to housing insecurity, foster care, homelessness, or other significant life circumstances.
- Assisting students with appeals regarding course access and credit awarded toward a degree, in accordance with Florida Statute 1006.51.
The Ombudsperson does not make decisions on behalf of the College, replace formal grievance or appeal processes, or provide legal advice. Instead, the Ombudsperson helps students understand available options and connect with the appropriate offices and resources.
Confidentiality
Conversations with the Ombudsperson are treated with discretion and respect. Information shared generally remains confidential unless disclosure is required by law, College policy, or when there is a concern for the safety of the student or others.
