What We Do

As a team, we support the College, its District Board of Trustees, and the entire Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­ community by providing legal services in the areas of contractual administration and compliance, employment law, public records and the Florida Sunshine law, educational rights and privacy, Constitutional law issues, real property and construction law, high level policy concerns, and other higher education and legal compliance matters. The General Counsel manages the activities of outside counsel who may be retained to assist with matters requiring specialized expertise. Please note that we do not offer legal advice or representation to students, employees, or other College personnel in personal, non-College related business. Our goal is for our professionalism and dedication to the College's tradition of excellence to serve the greater Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­ community at large.

The Office of the General Counsel neither advises nor represents individual students, faculty members or other employees in personal legal matters outside the scope of their business as College officials. For legal representation, residents should contact either their own private attorney or the Florida Bar Lawyer Referral Service at 800-342-8011. Legal Externship with the General Counsel’s Office

If you are a current student at an accredited law school, we offer academic externships throughout the year. These opportunities provide invaluable work experience in higher education, where you will enjoy hands-on training with the General Counsel and attorneys in the General Counsel’s Office.
