Traffic Citations

Authorized drivers (as well as applicants) must promptly inform the college of any criminal traffic citations or legal actions that may affect their ability to drive.

What is a criminal traffic citation?

  • Minor traffic citations are civil infractions that may result in fines and license points, such as speeding or running a stop sign.
  • Criminal traffic citations occur when the infraction is serious enough to be considered a crime. Such offenses can result in arrest, fines, probation, jail time, and suspended or revoked driver's license. Examples include (but are not limited to):
    • Driving under the influence (DUI)
    • Reckless driving (willful/wanton disregard for safety)
    • Driving with suspended, revoked, or no license
    • Leaving the scene of an accident (hit-and-run)
    • Fleeing or eluding law enforcement
    • Vehicular manslaughter or homicide

Authorized drivers, or those wishing to become authorized, must disclose any such citations to the college. This includes citations received after a person has been authorized to drive.
